"Surveys aren't real science"
Avatar
No category for "nope, no head pressures, ever"?
Avatar
the survey was specifically for those who claimed to have head pressures
Avatar
@Alyssa that was my problem with the survey
Avatar
Then you're throwing away data.
Avatar
why is that a problem? the survey gathers information about head pressures
Avatar
Important to gather information about the control groups too.
Avatar
It doesn't gauge exactly how common it is.
Avatar
We're firmly in the camp of "nope, never got em, and I sure can't control them in my host".
Avatar
We get them but they can't just turn them on and off at will
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 7/27/2018 10:41 PM
I could definitely run a separate survey to gauge how common it is
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 7/27/2018 11:18 PM
This one's aim was not to find out how common it is, but rather to find out more about the experiences of those who actually have head pressure
Avatar
dw I thought about that too but that wasn't the point of the survey
11:51 PM
it was a perfectly specific survey to actually learn about the tulpa phenomenon and it is good 👍

11:51 PM
broader surveys already exist
11:52 PM
also surveys are real science

I care way more about this head pressure survey than anything EEGs can tell us
11:53 PM
... yes, even though they would just be a better way of studying head pressures
11:53 PM
that's not the point!
Avatar
why are you uninterested in the EEGs?
Avatar
I was thinking about tulpa stuff in general when I said that not head pressures >_<
11:53 PM
because idc what parts of the brain are active when tulpas tulp
11:55 PM
our system has explained how tulpas work to ourselves SATISFACTORILY so we don't care about the extreme science specifics
11:55 PM
we care about things that matter to people l0l
11:56 PM
and this head pressure survey is a real bad example since it would actually be better to do real science stuff on them, I'm talkin... anything else
Avatar
seemed like a pretty legit survey, there's some new and useful data there
Avatar
Eh I don't think head pressure is particularly useful
Avatar
yeah well it's super interesting to learn about
1:01 AM
we never even experienced it and I think that
1:02 AM
the "what" to headpressure isn't as interesting as "when how and why"
Avatar
Fair enough
1:10 AM
Tho I don't see anything in the results that contradicts "its just an imposed sensation one associates with their tulpa" to me no more significant than any other imposed sensations
1:10 AM
But that's just my take on it
1:11 AM
I also think it would be a very rare thing if the meme wasn't spread around
1:12 AM
So an interesting survey question might target those who made tulpas before hearing about head pressure vs those who did not
Avatar
The only sense I believe it would persist is during very "straining" activities in forcing, as you get a feeling in your head when applying a whole lot of thought/focus.
1:12 AM
If not for the placebo effect you seem to be talking about here.
Avatar
But quite a few who report the phenomena report it during less straining times too
1:14 AM
Tho what you seem to be getting at makes it seem less a part of tulpamancy and more a part of thinking very hard
Avatar
That is to say, I think that during a time of working very hard is the most obvious time that head-pressures aren't a placebo/imagined/etc.
Avatar
You might be onto something
1:19 AM
But I still think its not all that significant to tulpamancy
Avatar
It's definitely worth reading about and the survey was interesting to read, headpressures are part of tulpamancy and any info is good info.
1:21 AM
That said, I agree it's not a huge deal one way or another.
Avatar

Well, surveys certainly are valuable if we can't have something more reliable. That one was interesting. But it lacked one aspect about head pressures I'm interested in. Do they disappear after some time?
5:11 AM
And yes, how common are they at all. Personally never had them.
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 7/28/2018 5:20 AM
Personally I've had them even since I started creating my tulpa, and it's been a little over 4 years now. I experience them almost every time I force. However, he's not as developed as he should be by now (barely and rarely vocal) because of inconsistent forcing due to bad habits, procrastination, and life getting in the way. I wonder if they'll go away when he's more developed. For some reason the head pressures feel pleasant though, ha (edited)

Deleted User 7/28/2018 5:28 AM
How do you know that the reasons are those you mentioned?
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 7/28/2018 5:40 AM
A few times in the past I have gone for months with no forcing. That is bound to make progress much slower than it would be otherwise
5:41 AM
Vocality only occurred for the first time after I started forcing more often than usual
Avatar
Deleted User 7/28/2018 5:46 AM
Well, months with no forcing don't help I guess if tulpa isn't even vocal. But with context of 4 years of trying without results it's hard not to give up, at least temporarily.
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 7/28/2018 5:48 AM
I never once "gave up", it was more of "I don't feel like forcing for x reason" or "oops, I forgot to force again"
5:49 AM
But hey, things are on a better track than ever right now. I got some things in my life in order and am forcing consistently now
Avatar
Deleted User 7/28/2018 5:51 AM
I think being consistent and forcing regularly might be helpful. Still, not hearing your tulpa for such a long time and still trying... That's unusual.
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 7/28/2018 5:55 AM
I think my circumstances are unusual. I've always had issues with committing to things consistently, not just limited to tulpa stuff. So, I'm not surprised at all by where I am at now. The cases that are actually unusual are those where someone forces almost every day for a year or more and still has little to no results
5:57 AM
Also, I am fairly certain Alex is "there", I can feel his presence and sense his emotions at times, and he has spoken a few times before. I've definitely made progress, I'm just not as far along as I would have been had I been more diligent with forcing all these years
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 7/28/2018 6:02 AM
it's not just about regular active forcing or anything. Considering that he's there... just keep him in mind, talk to him, show things to him, as often as possible. That's really all there is to it.
Avatar
I wouldn't call it "bad science" because they didn't count folks who never got head pressures. More like wasted opportunity in mu opinion.
1:46 PM
Would've been easy to invite everyone to participate, and have an option like "never had head pressures"
1:46 PM
Just another free piece of information for almost no more work.
Avatar
@Smeer Agreed. Then I would have been able to participate in the survey. Never had head pressure at all. But for what they were going for, interesting data.

Reached out to the author of http://pages.uoregon.edu/hodgeslab/files/Download/Taylor%20Hodges%20Kohanyi_2003.pdf; she replied back with: "Hi Shinyuu.  Thanks for sending the website addresses for information about tulpas.   I have been aware of tulpas, but don't know much about them.  However, I have been planning to do some research on tulpas so that I can discuss them in the 2nd Ed of my book (Imaginary Companions and the Children Who Create Them).  I am working on the new edition now." I think I'll refer her to Pleeb and Quora if she wants some details; any other ideas?

At least to "young" tulpas who are unable to possess/switch yet.

Interesting paper, I'll give it a read when a have some time. It seems that the topic of fictional characters, which develop a live on their own is a common symptom of authors and therefore a little better studied and understood. Unfortunately, it's not yet possible to tell a "head-doctor" about multiple persons in your head without being labeled ill, or 'disfunctional' as the professional literature suggests.

Hi guys, I'm doing some research on anxiety, depression, and Tulpamancy for a guide I am writing. I wrote a survey that's 11 questions long, most of which are short answer. The survey also skips questions that don't apply to you. If you are interested, here is the link to the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdUiIguJF6mbjUb6S279mVCznsW7MVKc5DAxZVrhLFxqr4R7w/viewform?usp=sf_link (edited)
This form is designed to collect data on what stress, anxieties, concerns, etc. Tulpamancers may experience and aims to receive feedback on what has been done or what could be done to address and resolve these issues. This research will be used to write a guide addressing thi...

Hey, I made a questionnaire to get a general view of the community and decide if tulpamancy is right for me, as well as learn more about the practice as a whole. Regardless I want to do more research on tulpas after this. I’d appreciate it! https://goo.gl/forms/NIh1JGsXK4cCUekQ2
Hello and thank you for taking this survey! Before you begin, please read the following warnings/notes:
